What to Wear to Your First Session

When you call to make your appointment, ask whether you should wear or bring a certain type of clothing when you come for your first visit. It is important that you are comfortable. Your session may include stretches and moderate exercise, so dress as if you are going to the gym.

Realize that you may need to lie down or get into difficult positions, so be sure to wear clothing that is easy to move around in. Shoulders-tank tops or loose T-shirts will allow the therapist to expose the shoulder if necessary. If you are suffering a leg or knee injury, be sure to wear shorts or loose pants that can be pulled up over the knee.

Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)

On your first visit, you will check in at front desk. You will be asked to fill out paperwork, unless you have printed it online and have it already filled out.(See Here)  You will need a copy of your orders from your physician, a photo ID, a list of your current medications and your insurance card(s). The Physical Therapist will then interview you regarding the reason for your visit and get a history of what led you to seek Physical Therapy. They will examine you and take measurements to determine areas that may affect your complaints and to determine a baseline to observe improvements. The first visit is often longer due to the examination process. From the assessment, the therapist will develop a plan of care to treat your symptoms and make goals for improvement.

Normally appointments are usually between 45-60 minutes, but can last longer in certain conditions.

Integrity Therapy Group is in network with most insurance.  Once we have your information, our office staff will contact the insurance and get a breakdown of your benefits based on your policy prior to your initial visit.

Each injury is different and each person’s health history is unique. Typically, patients will attend 1-3 times per week, either prescribed by your physician, or determined at the initial evaluation. Duration will depend upon the severity of your diagnosis. At Integrity Therapy Group, your physical therapist and our office staff will work with your schedule to accommodate a plan that will work for you and is best for your healing and independence.

Wear something you feel comfortable moving around in, as you might be asked to demonstrate movements or activities related to your symptoms. During the initial evaluation and follow up visits, the therapist will often need to assess your skin, muscles and joints around the area you are attending physical therapy for to determine what the problem is and treat it effectively.

The practice laws are different in different states. The State of Alabama allows you to receive physical therapy without a referral from your practitioner if you have seen that practitioner in the last 30 days for same complaints you are seeking physical therapy for. However, we cannot bill your insurance for those visits without a physician referral. You can be seen and treated at an out of pocket rate. We can accept referrals from MD’s, Dentists, CRNP’s, PA’s and chiropractors.

The American Physical Therapy Association( APTA)  recognizes 10 specialty areas in Physical Therapy. This means that beyond being licensed as a Physical Therapist, the therapist has taken advanced studies and a certification exam to specialize in specific areas. All therapist are educated to see a number of various conditions, but those with these certifications have participated in advanced studies to be certified.
